WFB RTT, Anthem Games, March 7th

8 player mini-RTT, 2250pts. VC army wins 3 games in a row to capture Best Overall. This is my 4th WFB army to win an RTT (albeit a very small one). Quick breakdown:

Game 1 vs. Matt's Brets - The terrain was wide open, which sucks against alot of cavalry, but I managed to trap the Bretonnian into charging 2 of his best units into my zombies. His other 2 units of knights got glued to my ethereal black coach and other zombie train, which enabled me to counter with ghouls and grave guard to break half his army. Game ended on Turn 4 w/ a Major victory. The pictures below are of the critical game. Left) A unit of knights is stuck against the Black Coach, awaiting the counter attack by a zombie train. In the rear, the fell bats have wiped out the trebuchet but are slowly losing to the peasant archers. In the lower corner, you can see the ghouls preparing to flank charge a unit of knights glued to my grave guard. Middle) 2 units of knights blast apart a zombie train on my left, causing 25 woundson the charge and inflicting anouther 20+ wounds from crumbling. Meanwhile, my lone dog watches before the peasants gun him down too. Right) The aftermath of the counterattack, where the ghouls and grave guard prepare to receive another charge before the game ended. Poor varghulf is stuck fighting peasants.

Game 2 vs. Josue's Dark Elves - I baited the DE's into deploying half his army (including both hydras) in one corner of the table while I deployed my entire army on the opposite (diagonal) corner. I refused a flank w/ zombies and blasted his small elite units (executioners/witch elves) with Dark magic. The executioners w/assassin charged my grave guard, but my vampire hero had the nightshroud so he whacked the assassin first. I managed to wipe out half his army while the other half tried to walk over to the fight but showed up too late. Game ended in a major victory.

Game 3 vs. Rob's O&G - I was on the same table and used the same deployment as Game 2. His magic negated most of mine and he had 4 bolt throwers. However, they spent the entire game shooting at the corpse cart, which regenerated most wounds and the vamps healed the rest. The greenskins tripped all over themselves with Waaaghs, failed charges from fear checks, stupidity, etc. all of which kept getting worse as the warboss tried to cram a billion greenskins into my 12x12 kill box. Not much happened (AT ALL) until the bottom of the 6th, when I wiped out the bolt throwers, a troll, a chariot and 2 units of gobbos in my final charge. Overall, I only gave up 48VPs from a unit of dire wolves and I got about 600 VPs. Minor (very minor) victory.

2/26/09 : Battle 3, 2250pts, VC massacred by Josue's Dark Elves in only 4 turns. The battle started well, with the Dire Wolves hunting down some harpies and a lvl1 sorceress, and the Black Coach getting completely buffed out. However, in Turn 3 I charged my entire army, and in a single round of combat lost both vampire heroes, the abyssal terror, and all other charges failed. Ensuing turn saw the Dark Elf countercharge which cut down my big units, and Count Rupert crumbled before the might of the Hydra. In short, the Dark Elves assassinated the army's leadership, and I conceded defeat knowing full well my army could not endure 3 crumbling tests. Next time I need to focus on keeping the vampires alive.

2/19/09 : Battle 2, 2250pts, VC defeated in a bitter contest with Rich's Wood Elves. This time the tree huggers had the home field, with plenty of forests for cover and plenty of hills for their archers. The grave guard did another good job of hacking apart the treekin, but the true highlight was when an elf noble charged the corpse cart, which had Always Strike First on it. The cart did 11 attacks and killed the hero, cutting him down and throwing him in the back along with the rest of the corpses. It was nothing short of brilliant! The rest of the battle was back and forth, though a solid round of miscasts and failed casts really hurt the zombie cause. The poor Abyssal Terror was blasted by Hail of Doom, again. Time to get some Black Knights!

2/12/09 : Battle 1, 2250pts: VC massacre Nick's Wood Elves. It was a home field battle for the undead, so only one small forest for the elves to hide in. Things went poorly for the elves from the outset, when two units of wild riders charged my Varghulf and ghouls respectively. The Superbeast chewed through the Wild Riders without any problem and the ghouls capitalized on the Corpse Cart's bound spell to kill off the other wild riders in one flurry of poisoned claws. Count Rupert killed all the wardancers, the Vampire Thralls killed the Treekin, and the Treeman was in a real tough spot. Game ended on Turn 5.
